Enrolling Your Child in a Daycare vs. a Learning Center

Last updated 2 years ago

If you’ve researched your options for child care, chances are you’ve encountered both daycares and learning centers. Initially, it may seem like they’re not so different—after all, they both provide care and activities for your child while you’re at work. However, scratch the surface, and you’ll discover that a learning center offers many more opportunities for your child than traditional daycare. Here are some of the programs learning centers can provide that you won’t find in daycare:

Science Programs
Playtime doubles as a learning exercise when science experiments are part of the activity schedule. At Under The Sun, we do a monthly experiment with our budding scientists. Through their activities, they learn lessons about the properties of energy, how sound travels, how tornadoes form, and much more. We start our hands-on science curriculum with our toddlers and continue the program right up through kindergarten.

Computer Programs
Computer knowledge is a must for academic success, so computer programs at learning centers can give your child the jumpstart they need to excel in school. At Under The Sun, we start children on the computer at age two. Every one of our classrooms has a computer lab, and each child gets computer time every day. Our computers have plenty of age-appropriate software programs that allow children to practice reading, writing, and math concepts.

Preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten Programs
For children of certain age levels, a learning center can be their school as well as their daycare. At Under The Sun, our preschool, pre-K, and kindergarten programs focus on reading, phonics, and math to prepare your children for the transition to first grade. We meet or beat New Jersey state-mandated teacher-to-student ratios in all of our classrooms and provide a structured curriculum with clear-cut learning goals.
